Dear OPB families,

We have been informed by Compass Bus that our regular driver David is no longer with the company.

The replacement driver’s name is Harry and he is currently being trained on the route.

We also requested a number for parents/school to call if there is an issue with the late bus (once dispatch is closed). The number provided to us is  312-758-2381This is the mobile number of Daryl Smith, the Compliance Quality Control Manager at Compass Bus Services.

During regular hours please call the number 773-279-9110 provided previously (also listed on your child’s bus ID and on the Ogden Pay Bus blog ) and press extension 2.

Our Bus company is changing its name!

Hello Ogden Pay Bus Families!

We have recently been informed by AI Bus Services that they will be changing their name to Compass Transportation.

This means that in a few days time,  (though we don’t know exactly when) the name on the side of the bus will change to Compass instead of AI.

Everything else remains the same. Our contract still holds and we will still have the same driver. Please inform your child of the name change so that they know which bus to look out for!

Unexpected Bus Delays

Hello OPB Families – We just found out from the bus company that the delays this morning were partly due to the fact that our regular driver called in sick and they had to arrange for a last minute substitute to drive the bus, who then experienced traffic delays. Fortunately, none of the children were marked late and everyone made it to school just in time.

The OPB Volunteers would like to reiterate some very important facts regarding possible delays, given that we live in a huge city and will encounter unexpected circumstances/traffic conditions on a potentially regular basis. As our past experience with AI Bus Service proves, they are incredibly reliable and  have quickly resolved bus issues when there is an employee who calls in sick, or there is a operational/technical issue with our bus – they have been proactive and very reliable in the past, yet there is no getting around a few delays when there are unanticipated, last-minute staffing/technical issues or traffic/weather delays beyond anyone’s control.

HERE ARE SOME REMINDERS:

Every family was given a letter along with the delivery of their bus pass. In that letter, it was explicitly explained that parents and students are in charge of calling the number on the back of the student’s bus pass, to inquire about delays – here is the back of your child’s pass, as another reminder:

IF THERE IS AN UNEXPECTED BUS DELAY AND THE CHILDREN RISK BEING LATE FOR THEIR FIRST CLASS, THEY WILL BE GIVEN AN EXCUSED LATE ARRIVAL – IT WILL NOT AFFECT THEIR ATTENDANCE RECORD. Ai Bus Service is a CPS approved bus vendor, and any bus delays are considered exempt from discipline.

Please remember that every one of the OPB Volunteers are parents with children who not only take the bus, but have paid to use this service, too. Like you, we ALL have a vested interest in our children getting to school safely and on schedule. Yet we also understand that some delays can’t be helped.

We thank those parents that were very understanding regarding the delays this morning, those of you that followed the directions in the parent letter or had their children call the number on the back of the bus pass. Your considerate response and cooperation are truly appreciated.

In the future, if there is an unexpected bus delay, please follow the acceptable protocol and call AI directly to determine what the ETA of the bus is, or find out what the delay is. We hope that these delays don’t happen often, but must accept that they could. Given the track record and undeniable reliability of Ai Bus Service over the years of working with them, we have full confidence in their proactivity and their competency as our trusted transportation provider…trusted so much, in fact, that we singled them out and selected them to transport and take care of our most precious cargo.

2017-18 Bus Schedule, Maps and Important Information!

Hello Ogden New Eastside Families!

The school year is finally here and now it’s time to make sure all OPB families and student riders review the bus stops, times, and other important information regarding this year’s OPB Service.

By now, you should be in possession of your Child’s personalized Bus ID. Make sure that the bus pass is securely attached to your child’s back pack so that the Bus Driver can see it easily.

AI Bus Service is written clearly on the side of our private pay bus, and will have a sign in the window by the door with the name “Ogden New Eastside Pay Bus” –  Make sure your child looks for these important markers before boarding the bus.

Except for the 7am West Campus Route time and 7:55am East Campus Route time beginning at 155 Harbor Drive, The Ogden Pay Bus does NOT have an allotted time to arrive at each subsequent stop due to unpredictable traffic/weather or other unforeseeable factors. The bus will NOT sit and wait at each subsequent stop for all students to arrive before moving on to the next stop. The student MUST be ready to board the bus as it arrives, as we are operating this private bus service under very tight time restraints while sharing it between both campuses.

Word of caution: there have been instances where students missed the bus at stop #1, and yet were able to cross N. Harbor Drive and catch the bus at stop #4. Please remind your child to be mindful of the traffic hazards while crossing the street, if they are trying to catch the bus at another stop.


 

For the 2017-2018 school year:

MORNING PICK UP

The OBP will start the WEST CAMPUS morning pickup at 155 N Harbor (stop #1) at 7:00 AM, and then proceed in numerical order, before venturing on to the West Campus (arriving at the West Campus around 7:25am – Please see the maps/information below for more details if you have a child traveling to the West Campus).

The OPB will start the EAST CAMPUS morning pickup at 155 N. Harbor (stop #1)at 7:55 AM using the same pattern.  Please have your student at the stop and ready to board promptly. Make sure to review the map below with your child so they understand where the drop-off and pick-up takes place.

AFTERNOON PICK UP

Our AI Bus will be waiting at the West Campus at 3:15 pm near the same location where students were dropped off in the morning (see maps below – on the north side of the school on E. Huron, near Door #6). West Campus students need to get to the bus as soon as possible after the final bell, as the bus is on very tight time constraints due to there being only one school bus this year for our neighborhood – the bus will wait until 3:20 pm and then leave to go to the East Campus, to collect the remaining East Campus OPB riders.

IMPORTANT: We recommend that West Campus OPB riders bring their back packs/belongings to their last period class, so that they can leave right from class and not miss the bus. If they miss the bus, they can take the 5 pm After School Activity Bus home.

The Bus will arrive at the East Campus around 3:40 PM  (depending on traffic/weather/etc) and wait near the corner of Dearborn and Oak, at the northwest corner of the school (near to where the students are dropped off in the morning). Be sure to notify your student’s teacher in writing that your student is riding the Ogden New Eastside Pay Bus so that your student will be able to wait near the Main Office for the Bus .Review the maps/information below for more details. Please note that due to the fact that we are sharing a bus between both campuses this year, and all the seats will be filled with students, parents/guests will NOT be able to take the Afternoon Dismissal bus home with their child.

ATTENTION NEW FAMILIES riding the OPB this year: We understand that the first week of school can be especially stressful for the kindergartners and new students who have never ridden the OPB before, who are unaware of where they are going or what to do after the final bell rings for the day. We are very happy to report that on the first day of school, there will be a couple of parent volunteers standing by the East Campus Main Office to help guide the kids as to where to wait and what to do, so the first day/adjustment period won’t be quite so stressful. After the final bell rings, your student should go right to the area near the security desk/main office. There will be a volunteer holding up a sign with a school bus on it that reads “New Eastside Ogden Pay Bus” so that the new students will know who to ask for help regarding our private neighborhood bus protocol at the East Campus.  Kindergarten OPB families should also be receiving an additional email from OPB Volunteers very soon regarding other ways we hope to work together to make the little ones acclimated with finding their way to the correct waiting area and become adjusted to it all.

 After School Activity Route

At 5:00 PM our AI Bus Service bus will pickup students in front of the school on E. Erie in front of door #1 (see the maps/information below). We recommend that students be waiting at door #1 by 4:55 pm, as the bus driver will not wait past 5 pm. The bus will then proceed to the East campus and pickup student at the regular spot at Dearborn and Oak on the northwest corner of the building. Students at East campus may remain inside the school and should be at the window overlooking Dearborn (see map below) watching for the bus by 5:15 PM. The bus will pull up and wait for a few minutes, then leave to return to the neighborhood.

Reminder about Right at School – We do not work directly with Right at School. If your student attends Right at School, be sure to notify that organization that your child takes the 5pm bus home, and you must work with Right at School to arrange that process.

Please take a moment to share these maps and information with your child. Remember that it is your and your child’s responsibility to be at their bus stops promptly. The bus does not circle back for students who miss the bus. If a student misses the bus, it is your responsibility to make other transportation arrangements. Also, if the bus is running late, you/your child can call the AI dispatch telephone number listed on the back of their Bus Pass to ask where the bus is, or what the estimated time of arrival is.

If your child needs an escort when they get off the bus in the afternoon, please make sure that you or anyone who is picking them up is at the bus stop in time as the bus driver cannot be responsible for students once they disembark at their stop.

Hello OPB Families!

After you’ve paid your final 2017-18 OPB balance and $10 Bus ID fee, your child’s bus pass will be delivered in a sealed envelope to your building’s lobby personnel/Front Desk – look for it the next week or so.

THIS BUS PASS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE CHILD’S BACKPACK AND CLEARLY VISIBLE FOR THE DRIVER WHEN BOARDING THE BUS AT ALL TIMES.

If this is your first time using the OPB service and are not familiar with how to attach the bus loop to your child’s backpack:

You will notice some important information on the back of the bus pass:

You or your child may need to reach the bus company or school for many reasons (some examples: Was something forgotten on the bus? Is the bus late and you’re wondering about its location or estimated time of arrival?) – it is the parent’s/child’s responsibility to call the numbers on back if there are issues like this. Remember, the OPB is a PRIVATE, volunteer run transportation service that is not a part of CPS or Ogden International … the parent volunteers just negotiate the bus contract, arrange payment and get this service off the ground at the beginning of every year. If there are personal issues like lost items or wondering where the bus is, please call the Ai Bus # on the back of the pass. This year, we’ve also included the different campus numbers and the blog address so that students can have easy access from their phones as well.

Hello OPB families! We hope everyone has had a wonderful summer, and is now ready to complete the final stage of registration for the OPB 2017-2018 School year. Due to the challenges of declining ridership numbers in our neighborhood, the volunteers have had to come up with ways to make bus transportation both possible as well as affordable, and we are very happy to report that after negotiations with a few bus companies, we will be entering into a contract with AI again this year, and at a rate per family that was less than last year. Yay for savings and great news!

Here are some important things to consider:

If you submitted your application and deposit by the due date, yet are no longer interested in this bus service anymore, please let us know ASAP via e-mail so that we may accommodate children who are on the waiting list for this bus service. However, please remember that as per the terms of the original agreement signed by you, the $500 deposit is non-refundable.

For those families that submitted their applications and deposits by the due date, please check your email for the link and password for the full, detailed Bus contract with Ai. We need all parents to review that contact and then sign the Parent Transportation agreement:

Every year since the beginning of the OPB Service to our neighborhood, OPB Volunteers have signed the bus contract with our service provider on behalf of the all OPB families (or else each parent would have to appear in person and sign a separate contract with the bus company, per child, and imagine that logistical nightmare!) – this year is no exception, and volunteers have been able to secure this invaluable service and beneficial savings for those families that met the deadline in June.  But in order to finalize this last step in securing the bus contact, we need you to print out the Parent Contract above and submit it with your final payment.

Volunteers have received overwhelming support and gratitude for the way that the first part of registration transpired, giving parents the opportunity to turn in their forms and payment over a longer period (24/7 for many days, not limiting anyone from missing the deadline), instead of the long lines and wait in previous years. Due to popular demand, we are happy to report that the second part of registration will occur in the same easy fashion! The volunteers would like to thank Maya, who has so generously offered so much of her time (and use of her building’s front desk staff) to allow for this kind of easy access to facilitate this stress-free “no-lines, no-waiting, no-worry” registration processtaking on this huge responsibility and helping us to arrange this bus, with so many families and schedule needs, is a huge undertaking. We are grateful to Maya for all she has done to keep this OPB endeavor afloat.

Just remember that as long as you get your final payment and paperwork in by the deadline next week, you’re golden!

Here are the 4 important steps to follow:

  1. Payment for the remaining amount (disclosed in the emails to current OPB families) must be made only by Cashiers Check or Money OrderThe check or money order must be made  payable to AI Bus Services LLC.
  2. Click on this link https://ogdenpaybus.wordpress.com/2017/08/08/bus-contract-and-parent-agreement/ to review the bus contract. This information is password protected and you will need to use the password given to you in your email to access it.
  3. After reviewing the bus contract, we need your signature to confirm that you have reviewed the contract above and agree to have the volunteers sign the contract representing all of us. The parent agreement has been e-mailed to you or is attached in the link above or HERE, and must be signed and turned in with your payment.
  4. Please deliver your money order/cashiers check and the signed parent agreement to: 450 East Waterside Drive (The Chandler) , Attention: Maya Tatineni, Unit 908, by Friday August 18th, 5 P.M

Again, please check your emails. All details have been sent to the families that made the deadline back in June, but please remember that anyone who fails to get their paperwork in by the deadline of 5pm on Friday, August 18, will forfeit their deposit and spot, and your child’s spot will be given to someone on the waiting list. If for some reason you are out of town or can’t make this deadline, please contact OgdenPayBus@gmail.com right away.

The Ogden Pay Bus volunteers wish to thank you for your continued cooperation as we all prepare our children for entering into another exciting school year at Ogden International – there are great things ahead, and the sooner we tie up registration loose ends, the sooner we can start off this new school year in the best way possible.

Make sure to get your final payment, Parent Agreement and any other requests (check your email to see if anything has been overlooked or requested from you) ASAP, and once your final payment and paperwork is received, you’ll hear from OPB volunteers about bus passes for the kids, updated route times, etc.
